In 1962 after Ferrari had refused to sell
him a GTO, Count Giovanni Volpi, owner of the SSS Scuderia Serenissima Republica di Venezia, decided to create one
himself and the Breadvan was born.Using
the 250 SWB chassis N° 2819 GT , applying Bizzarrini ideas from the GTO
and Drogo’s aerodynamically
advanced Kamm theory body with
the engine further back towards the center of the chassis , the car was completed in just 14 days .It competed against the new 1962 Ferrari 250 GTOs at the
24 Hours of Le Mans and was reported to be 7 km/h faster than the GTOs on the Hunaudières straight.
