In 1962  after Ferrari had refused to sell him a GTO, Count Giovanni Volpi, owner of the SSS Scuderia Serenissima Republica di Venezia, decided to create one himself and the Breadvan was born.Using the 250 SWB  chassis N° 2819 GT , applying Bizzarrini ideas from the GTO  and Drogo’s aerodynamically advanced Kamm theory body with the engine further back towards the center of the chassis , the car was completed in just 14 days .It competed against the new 1962 Ferrari 250 GTOs at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and was reported to be 7 km/h faster than the  GTOs on the Hunaudières straight.
